The Phareodus testis is a prehistoric fish species that existed during the Eocene epoch, approximately 50 million years ago. This carnivorous freshwater fish was part of the ancient Green River Formation, a fossil-rich geological deposit in Wyoming. These fossils are renowned for their exceptional preservation, often showcasing intricate details of fins, scales, and even stomach contents. The fine-grained sediment of the Green River Formation played a crucial role in creating an environment conducive to the remarkable preservation of these specimens, providing a snapshot of the aquatic life that thrived millions of years ago.
